Essentials Course

If you have found your way to this page you are a Generalist in need and ready to take the next step to understand your unique value, narrative, and career plan. This course is a pragmatic, cost-effective approach for Generalists seeking to transform their self-awareness, confidence, and career.

 

Essentials Course Overview

Led by certified coaches who are also experienced Generalists, this course combines pre-session videos, six 90-minute virtual group sessions with three 1:1 coaching sessions on course topics, career questions, and/or leadership challenges. Pre-work, new content, and opportunities for discussion, practice, and reflection are included. We celebrate accomplishments and lock in new connections at the end of the experience.

  • Understand, embrace, and ground in Generalist attributes & individual strengths

  • Develop your narrative and confidently communicate your value as a Generalist 

  • Investigate your career plan, including understanding the conditions for success that are unique to Generalists

  • Build community and network with other Generalists

  • Dates:

    • Feb. 20th Pre-work (no session)

    • Six sessions: Feb. 27, March 6, March 13, March 27, April 3 April 10

    • 3: 11 coaching sessions: Week of March 16, week of April 3, and last session by end of May​​​

  • Fee: $1,850 if registered by Feb.1; $2,000 after.

  1. Pre-Work - Complete CliftonStrengths assessment and view Case and Overview videos

  2. Start With Strengths - Understand why Generalists are needed but often not understood; how a strengths-based approach is essential for Generalists; and your unique strengths. 

  3. Curiosity & Creative Connections Advantage - Understand the key characteristics Generalists can self-direct and use. 

  4. Narrative Development - Develop a narrative that communicates your value as a Generalist and ensures credits for your accomplishments.

  5. 1:1 Coaching Session

  6. Context: Power & Pitfalls - Understand the power, pitfalls, and place of the Generalist, including how to vet the environment, customize roles, and assess performance.

  7. Development & Growth - Identify areas for your professional focus and growth. Create career direction.

  8. 1:1 Coaching Session

  9. Network & Celebration - Practice networking and strengthen your new connections.

Narrative SPRINT - Generalist Essentials

NARRATIVE SPRINT Overview

This six-hour, small-group workshop is explicitly focused on helping Generalists develop a unique value statement and narrative outline as a foundation for personal brand, application materials, and answering that fundamental question; "what do you do." Four 90-minute sessions will be held over two days.

​Pre-Work

  • Complete CliftonStrengths assessment (30-45 minutes)

  • Complete required pre-work assignments (two- three hours) â€‹

Day 1 - 3 hours 

  • Session 1: Overview of 'Generalist Dilemma' and core characteristics; Discern individual work insights

  • Session 2: Identify key language; claiming credit; value statement 

Day 2 - 3 hours 

  • Session 3: Narrative development 

  • Session 4: Active practice; networking strategy;
